Latar belakang penelitian ini adalah adanya prinsip pembelajaran yang efektif yaitu mencipkakan pembelajaran yang menyenangkan, kontekstual, efektif, efisien dan bermakna. Untuk itu perlu adanya bahan ajar yang didalamnya mengandung unsur-unsur kontekstual untuk mendukung proses pembelajaran agar berjalan efektif serta meberikan pengetahuan tentang budaya melayu Riau kepada siswa dengan adanya integrasi budaya melayu Riau di dalamnya.
